Lulu is a perfect model. Today she was kind enough to spare some of her valuable time so I could take some photos of her. To be honest we were both interested to see, in an entirely unscientific way, what differences there were between the photos from a SLR, an iPhone, and a Point & Shoot compact camera.
The SLR
These first photos are from the SLR. This is a Nikon D100 with a 70-210 f2/8 lens so it's old and probably not very good compared to what is available today. However the light and sharpness are great and the bokeh is smooth and buttery!
I like it.

By this time Lulu was getting a little tired of all the fuss so I was being given the hard stare. When this happens it's best to go all Black & White...

Yes. Very regal.

The iPhone
And onto the iPhone. This is a iPhone 6 using the standard Camera app. Lulu's not impressed with all of this and starts to doze off. However - I'm impressed! These pictures have a nice sharpness, light and even a bit of fuzzy bokeh! Not as smooth as the SLR but very impressive for a lens the size of a fingernail!

Moving indoors the results are still good providing the light is good. Great colour and good sharpness and definition on the bricks but ignoring Lulu's nose which annoyed Lulu a bit.

| ISO250 | f2.2 | 1/17 |

The Point & Shoot camera
And finally to the P&S. This is a Canon IXUS 80IS. It's not entirely surprising the images are much coarser than the SLR, with no real bokeh. However I am surprised just how better the SLR photos are in comparison, and how even the photos from the iPhone look better. These look like they've been taken under artificial light or been subsequently sharpened. It's all starting to look like a Hitchcock movie.

OK... big yawn. Enough of this please - it's time for dinner!

In Summary
In an entirely unscientific summary, there are no surprises that there's a real smoothness to the photos from the SLR which isn't matched by either the iPhone or the P&S. This is despite the SLR having the smallest sensor (6MP).
However what was surprising was that despite a bigger lens and larger sensor the Point & Shoot doesn't seem to produce as pleasing pictures as the iPhone!
Anyway enough of this I better get onto Lulu's dinner!
