Mood of the Sea

Lapping at the bow there’s a rhythm to the boat
I look at M and smile as we both know
A surface of oil with a vibrant blue deep below
Sun sparkles into the deep, the deep deep deep

Blue today, and tomorrow it’s black
When it’s like that there’s no turning back
Crests of white smack the side
And the salt cracks your face
The mood of the sea will change, and change change change

But when you’re happy there’s nowhere like it
Buoyed on the current and feeling at one with the world
Respect it though for respect is due
An ocean, an ocean, an ocean, an ocean

Hold your tongue lad for its taken better than you
Never to rest, the sea suffers no fool
Now as I grow older
I watch it with awe

And wonder what is today’s mood of the sea
