A moment of doubt

I’m sitting here in the dirt and the grime
I don’t have no doubt, not this time
Feels like I can see back into time
Beyond one or maybe more lifetime

I look up - She looks at me across time

And wistfully smiles a smile I can see just fine
But fog comes in, she fades, the moment is stole
And sorrow makes my heart burn red like hot coal

Had much to say yet was unable to speak
Feelings too deep for words to critique
To condense a whole lifetime into a moment so small?
Can’t say in words what I feel any more

I’m sitting here in the dirt and the grime

Picking up words but they don’t work in my mind
Angrily throw them on to a pyre on the floor
Toss a match. Watch it burn. They don’t matter no more.
